Do I own the software if I buy a source license?

Yes. The source license grants you the right to run, modify, and deploy the software internally for your organization. After two years, the license automatically converts to permissive open source.

What does "converts to open source after 2 years" mean?

Forge apps use a Business Source License (BSL). The code you purchase today is licensed for business use immediately. After two years from each release, that version's license automatically converts to Apache 2.0 (or a similar permissive license), making it freely available to everyone.

Can I self-host instead of paying monthly?

Absolutely. Buy the source license once and run it on your own servers. Every Forge app ships with Docker and includes deployment documentation. The monthly plans are only for people who want us to handle hosting.

Do I need to use Buildly for hosting?

No. Buildly hosting is entirely optional. You can self-host, use any cloud provider, or have an agency host it for you. We will never force you onto our infrastructure.

Can I bring my own AI API keys?

Yes. Forge apps that use AI features support bring-your-own API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) on Hosted and Managed plans. If you self-host, you configure keys directly.

What if I want custom features?

The Managed plan includes workflow customization and light integration support. For deeper custom work, the Enterprise plan or a direct engagement with our team can cover more complex requirements. You can also modify the source code yourself with a source license.

Can an agency host this for me?

Yes. With a source license, your agency or implementation partner can host and manage Forge apps on your behalf. We also have a Partner Program for agencies that want to offer Forge-based solutions to their clients.

Is there a discount for multiple apps?

Yes — multi-app bundles offer savings over individual pricing. Buildly Labs members also receive discounts on source licenses. Contact us for a custom quote if you're looking to deploy several apps.
